The Georgia Alliance of Direct Support Professionals
Is an organization for you if you already work in Georgia's communities providing some form of support to people, or if you are interested in doing so. Our Mission is to:
1.
Improve the extent to which persons with
developmental disabilities are included and supported within community life
across Georgia.
We do this by: Creating a valued
social role for everyone in the community; speaking on behalf of issues related
to the quality of supports for Alliance members; and advocating for an
adequately funded system of supports.
2. Promote the respect and recognition
of direct support professionals.
We do this by: Being members of the GA Alliance and NADSP; promoting relevant person-centered training and skil development for Direct Service Professionals, and using each other's gifts, interests, and expertise.
3. Advocate for quality support services.
We do this by: Acting as a
concerted and united voice on the quality of community supports; creating
learning opportunities through local leadership development, statewide events and
local chapter gatherings.
4. Advocate for the participation of
direct support professionals in state and community service planning.
We do this by: Advocating
for long term and stable relationships with people who are being supported;
participating on issues around living wage and benefits that will attract and
retain direct support professionals.
5. Be a community of practice on issues
of direct support.
We do this by: Using every opportunity to share knowledge, issues, ideas, solutions and resources with other Direct Support Professionals and community members, so that we encourage lifelong learning in ourselves and our profession.
